ART-ACT FESTIVAL
Singapore 2023

'The City as Text: A Statement of Dignity'

Artist: Carola Ureta Marín
Animation: Marco Fuentes
Sound: Amir Bech

A platform for international collaboration where artists and designers from different disciplines such as Design, Textiles and Mixed Media, Fashion Design, and Graphic Design, among others, come together. The artists are alumni and current students of the Royal College of Art in London (the #1 postgraduate university for Art and Design) with the support of Nanyang Technological University, School of Art, Design, and Media in Singapore.

In a world of constant disruption, crisis, and conflict, art becomes a powerful tool to drive change. It gives a space to explore and discuss the problems that affect us as human beings and fosters the generation of innovative and revolutionary ideas. Youth and creatives are on the frontline of social change, challenging and questioning power structures. By empowering these individuals and sharing their views on the world and how we live, we want to act as an amplifying platform to reinforce the role of artists and designers as key stakeholders for a better tomorrow.

SITES

Ten Square

The Ten Square landmark and initiative aim to inspire, motivate and empower young people in the areas of social impact innovation, and creativity. It brings meaningful projects to the community by promoting the arts in collaboration with like-minded stakeholders from the private, public, and non-profit sectors. LED screens have increased in public spaces worldwide and are mostly used only for commercial advertising. However, when these large-scale screens are used to show media art in public, they can transform the experience of space and evoke sensorial and emotional impressions in passers-by, as well as allowing artists to be "agents of change".

Media Art Nexus

Media Art Nexus (MAN) at the Nanyang Technological University Singapore (NTU) is an urban media platform for curating and promoting media art content by emerging and established local and international artists. Conceived in 2016, it was formally launched in 2018 as part of the NTU Museum's public art initiative titled "Campus Art Trail". MAN is integrated with teaching at ADM NTU with a focus on creating time-based media for large-scale urban media façades and LED billboards.
